The women’s singles finals are set for the 2018 Australian Open, which will be contested between the top two seeds from the bracket. Top seed Simona Halep will be taking on second seed Carolina Wozniacki after both were victorious in semifinal matches Wednesday.

Halep needed three sets and an extended third, but she bested the No. 21 seed, Angelique Kerber, 6-3, 4-6, 9-7, to punch her ticket to the final. Wozniacki has played much more dominant tennis than Halep this tournament, and took down her semifinal opponent, Elise Mertens, in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(2).

Neither player has won a Grand Slam in the past. Halep has made it to the finals of the French Open twice, and this is her first appearance in the finals of the Australian Open. Wozniacki is also making her first appearance in the finals at Melbourne, but made it to the finals twice at the US Open, losing both matches.
