Roger Federer is one match away from attaining his 20th singles Grand Slam title, though he probably doesn’t need it to be considered the absolute best to ever participate in men’s singles tennis.
Australian Open 2018 results and bracket: Roger Federer into finals vs. Marin Cilic
Federer beat Hyeon Chung in the semifinals and will now go for his 20th Grand Slam title.

On Thursday, Federer was making short work of Hyeon Chung, the unseeded South Korean who shocked everyone by making it to the semifinals, until Chung had to retire from the match due to blisters on his feet. It was an incredible run from Chung, who beat Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic and Tennys Sandgren on his way to the semifinals.
Federer, though, was well on his way to victory before Chung retired, winning, 6-1, 5-2. Federer hit several aces and was efficient with his breaks in the matchup. He will go on to the finals, where he will face Marin Cilic, the sixth seed.
Federer, 36, has 19 Grand Slam singles titles, including five wins at the Australian Open. That also includes last year, when he beat Rafael Nadal in the finals. He made it to the semifinals with a straight-set win over Tomas Berdych, the 19th seed.
Cilic bested unseeded Kyle Edmund in the semifinals and beat Nadal in the quarterfinals. He also beat 10th seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the fourth round. The men’s final will take place the day after the women’s final, which is between Simona Halep, the top seed, and Caroline Wozniacki, the second seed.
