Nadal earned his spot in a semifinal match by beating No. 11 seed Diego Schwartzman. With split days of play due to rain, Nadal battled back after losing his first set in 37 consecutive sets on Wednesday, to record a four-set victory over Schwartzman on Thursday. Every time he has advanced to the semifinals at the French Open, he has gone on to win the men’s title.

Del Potro is returning to the semifinals in Paris for the first time since 2009. This will be his second appearance in the Roland-Garros semifinal.

Thiem earned his spot in the semifinals with a straight-set win over second seed Alexander Zverev. His opponent, Cecchinato, defeated 2016 French Open champion Novak Djokovic to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal.
