The worst college basketball game will haunt us all

Virginia Tech blew out NC State while only scoring 47 points themselves — woof.

Do you ever forget where you put your keys?

Maybe you blank on the name of a friend’s significant other?

What about failing to remember how to do something that you’ve been practicing, thinking about, living and breathing for the majority of your life? Well, that’s what happened to NC State (and, to a lesser extent, Virginia Tech) on Feb. 2, 2019.

The schools faced off in a game that was supposed to be basketball, but rarely resembled the sport. Both teams were ranked, both teams were great shooters, and yet they combined for a game so terrible that even with VT only managing 47 points, it was a complete blowout.

The expectations made it even less bearable, as the announcers could only offer empty promises that someone would heat up. The Hokies deserve some credit though for doing much more than they needed to do— especially considering NC State bookended the night by hitting a single field goal in the first 10 minutes of play, then failing to convert a basket in the final seven minutes of the game.

So if a member of the Wolfpack starts to moan about them missing the 2019 men’s NCAA tournament, just show them this.
