Greece vs. Liechtenstein, 2014 World Cup qualifying: Preview and TV schedule

Greece could be with touching distance to reach next summer’s showpiece, but they will need some help from Lithuania.

Joern Pollex

On Tuesday, Greece will be playing Liechtenstein in Athens in their final Group G fixture on their way to the 2014 World Cup. The home side are heavy favourites to take all three points but the group will be decided on the outcome of Lithuania's fixture with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

As it currently stands, Greece and Bosnia are the only teams that are able to qualify either directly or through the playoffs. Both teams sit on 22 points and if they achieve the equal results (meaning both teams win their matches) then Bosnia will take the top spot through their massive goal difference.

Fernando Santos will pick a squad likely aimed at winning and taking all three points. Kostas Katsouranis will be available once again after serving a suspension on Friday for his sending off against Latvia in September. Sotiris Ninis and Ioannis Fetfatizidis played well after coming on as substitutes and might well be in the starting lineup. Formation-wise Santos is not likely to change the recent 4-5-1/4-3-3 system used in the last few matches. It is very unlikely that he will experiment in a match so crucial.

Greece's opponents Liechtenstein have been the whipping boys of the group having only managed two draws in nine games. They did however hold Greece to a tense and nervy 1-0 game in Vaduz.

Match Date/Time: Tuesday, October 15 at 8:00 p.m. local, 1:00 p.m. ET

Venue: Georgios Karaiskakis, Piraeus
