WWE Live from MSG: The full rundown and why you should care

A meat man is going to wrestle a literal giant. What person on the planet isn’t excited to see that?

On Saturday night, WWE will present its latest WWE Network-exclusive live special, emanating from the prestigious and legendary Madison Square Garden. The event will be headlined by Brock Lesnar, continuing his “Go To Hell” Tour as he ramps up to face The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell later this month.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a big WWE show at MSG, so that alone is a good reason to tune in. Below are just the reasons we know about why you should be looking forward to this live WWE Network special, which begins at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night.

PLEASE NOTE: There will likely be at least one or two more matches added to this card by the time it goes live. What we’re covering here are just the matches that have been announced ahead of time.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev

What am I looking at here? Dolph Ziggler is a jerk and a womanizer who has been doing everything he can to make Rusev feel bad that Dolph is dating Rusev’s ex-girlfriend. He’s also been attacking Rusev when his back is turned, giving his current girlfriend nice gifts while Rusev is just trying to wrestle matches and earn a living. Ziggler has also gotten himself into situations where he’s parading his naked, chiseled, glistening body in front of Rusev’s girlfriend.

Dolph Ziggler is the good guy.

Why you should care: The last couple matches these guys have had against each other have been good, despite the awful, awful storyline that has been swirling around them since ...

uh ...

I’m sorry, I’m having trouble remembering a time before Ziggler and Rusev were feuding.

The thing to look forward to in this match is the hope that the alignments will finally, finally shift and that WWE will say it’s okay for us to cheer for Rusev, who is definitely the guy we should be cheering for.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

What am I looking at here? Randy Orton hears voices in his head. They counsel him, they understand. THEY TALK TO HIM. Sheamus has a mohawk and a braided beard which DO NOT LOOK STUPID. He is concerned as to your current level of entertainment.

Why you should care: Randy Orton and Sheamus have been wrestling each other since time began. They will be wrestling each other long after you and I are both dead. They are both Sisyphus and the other man is their boulder. Somewhere, there are a pair of attics, each containing a portrait where each man wrestles increasingly more diverse and fantastical opponents.

Do not weep for them, for this is a purgatory of their own devising. Look over your shoulder right now; Randy Orton and Sheamus are wrestling each other behind you. You wonder why you never noticed them there before. It’s okay. It’ll be over soon. Then they’ll do it again tomorrow. Maybe they’ll phone before they come around and ask if you want them to pick you up a Starbucks.

Sometimes it’s nice when old friends bring you a Starbucks.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz

What am I looking at here? The New Day are a trio of obnoxious, tromboning hypocrites who think everything but themselves is booty. The Dudley Boyz are those guys you remember. They still like putting people through tables. Just ... not so much with the old women anymore.

Why you should care: The New Day are unequivocally the best thing about professional wrestling right now. Just shut up and let them entertain you, dammit.

Also, this is the match most likely to result in a title change on this show. Title changes are fun to watch. If the Dudleys win the titles here, it will be their unprecedented 10th WWE tag team championship reign. That’s neat, too!

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Chris Jericho

What am I looking at here? Kevin Owens is a tubby, violent jerk who hates everything but his family, for whom he wrestles. Chris Jericho is WORLD’S COOLEST DAD, a first-ballot Hall of Famer, metal band singer and game show host.

Why you should care: Chris Jericho MIGHT be gearing up for a retirement tour next year. The last time he was on a WWE Network-exclusive special, he and Neville stole the show in Tokyo. He’s going up against one of the most unique and hungry wrestlers on the main roster.

Owens’ first Intercontinental Championship defense will be against a fellow Canadian that he grew up idolizing. He’s probably going to be a jerk to him and jump on him with his whole body. It’s going to be awesome.

WWE United States Championship Steel Cage Match: John Cena vs. Seth Rollins

What am I looking at here? John Cena is the guy who wins things! Seth Rollins is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Tough break, Seth!

Why you should care: They’ve only been feuding for a few months, but every time Cena and Rollins have locked up, it’s been special. It’s likely that Rollins will end up going down as one of Cena’s iconic rivals, alongside Edge and Randy Orton.

This steel cage match should be a lot of fun. There isn’t going to be a lot of mystery in the finish, because Cena has already won this feud and Rollins has moved onto a feud with TWO KANES. But it still has a high chance of being the match of the evening. It’s also likely this will be the main event.

Brock Lesnar vs. The Big Show

What am I looking at here? The Big Show is the world’s largest athlete, a future Hall of Famer and the most accomplished (and probably talented) big man of all time. Nobody cares about that, because he’s rarely been given anything significant to do over the past decade and can’t go 15 minutes without flipping from good guy to bad guy and back again. That sort of thing makes it hard for a person to get invested.

Brock Lesnar is an inhuman, indestructible automaton who was created to consume beef sandwiches and suplex people until they separate into their base components of blood and urine and vomit. He is a human wrecking ball with the physique of an original Master of the Universe toy and the head of the angriest Boxtroll.

Why you should care: Every single time Brock Lesnar has a match, it is an event. He is truly special. It’s going to be awesome to watch him wrestle, no matter who he’s wrestling. He and Big Show should have a great match that will devolve into a spectacle of what a monster on earth Brock Lesnar is.

The first time Brock Lesnar and the Big Show were in a huge, high-profile match, THEY BROKE THE GOD DANG RING. If you’re complaining about having to watch a Big Show match in the year 2015, just look across the ring at the horrifying sandwich golem he’s fighting. That should cure what ails you.
