Asuka rallies to help ‘Raw’ knock off ‘SmackDown’ for the second consecutive year

Asuka had to eliminate Tamina and Natalya to catapult ‘Raw’ to victory.

The 5-on-5 Women’s elimination match consisted of excellent teamwork from both brands, but the Raw team scratched and clawed its way to victory.

This star-studded elimination match got off to a fast start. Raw’s Alicia Fox and SmackDown’s Becky Lynch started the match — and they immediately traded blows with one another. However, Bayley eliminated Lynch quickly, which shocked the entire arena. But SmackDown answered by eliminating Bayley, evening the playing field at four competitors apiece.

After SmackDown eliminated Bayley, Nia Jax entered the match for Raw. But Tamina helped SmackDown out by eliminating Jax, who was seen as the biggest threat in this bout, via count out.

A few moments later, Naomi eliminated Fox. And Sasha Banks followed that up by putting Naomi in the Bank Statement, causing Naomi to submit.

At this point, Raw only had Banks and Asuka remaining, and SmackDown had Carmella, Natalya, and Tamina. Asuka evened the playing field by eliminating Carmella, leaving just Natalya and Tamina available for Team SmackDown.

However, Natalya applied the sharpshooter to Banks. And Banks tried to tag Asuka in, but Tamina knocked Asuka off the apron, causing Banks to tap.

Now, Askua was tasked with eliminating Tamina and Natalya by herself. Asuka was successful in that task, as she made both of them tap out — Tamina via a nasty Cross Armbreaker, and Natalya by her trademark Asuka Lock.
