Brock Lesnar triumphs in incredibly physical WWE Universal Championship match

Or: Braun Strowman punched a chair, and that was at the start of the match.

Any match with Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, and Kane in it is guaranteed to be a massively physical match that requiresthe ring to be reinforced. When you throw those three titans into a Universal Championship match, you’d better find a way to protect the fans, because the intensity is massively multiplied — and that was definitely the case at the 2018 Royal Rumble.

All three men had a lot of grudges to sort out with one another, and they looked to settle their differences by hitting each other as hard as they could, and making full use of the no-disqualification stipulation that’s part of any triple-threat title match. Brock Lesnar ate a huge drop kick from Strowman in the opening moments of a match, then punched a steel chair out of Lesnar’s hands. Yes, you read that right: Lesnar tried to take a steel chair to Strowman, and the Monster Among Men punched it right out of his hands.

The match only got more physical from there, with Brock being powerslammed through one table in the ring, then F-5-ing both Strowman and Kane through announce tables, and throwing another table on top of Strowman to keep him down. It takes more than that to keep Strowman out of a match, though, and the gigantic wrestler looked like he had Lesnar beat after a running powerslam in the middle of the ring. Strowman didn’t want it to be that easy, though, and screamed for Lesnar to get back up to take another one, but Kane appeared to throw him out of the ring.

That would be the opening Brock needed, though, as Kane turned around straight into Lesnar’s grasp for another F-5. That would be all Lesnar needed to get the pinfall and the victory, escaping with his title reign intact — barely. Strowman was furious, screaming that Lesnar hadn’t beaten him, and that’s definitely true. Their story is very much not done yet, and where things go next is up in the air.
