It’s been a wild and unpredictable night at WrestleMania 34, and it was certainly far from many people’s minds that Jinder Mahal could win the United States Championship in the Fatal Four Way match between him, Rusev, Bobby Roode, and defending champion Randy Orton.
WrestleMania 34: Jinder Mahal cancels Rusev Day with United States Championship win
Jinder Mahal was not hindered in his path towards becoming the newest United States Champion.
But he did.
Despite being mostly an afterthought in the minds of many in this match — especially after Rusev was added to it two weeks ago — Mahal performed well throughout the match, mostly avoiding everyone’s more devastating offensive moves aside from one RKO from Orton, and always staying around the action to make sure he was in position to take advantage of mistakes.
It was a smart showing from Mahal, who upset the crowd’s hope that the increasingly-popular Rusev would pull out the win. In fact, it was Rusev that Mahal would pin, hitting his Khallas Clutch after Rusev seemed to gain control of proceedings with Roode and Orton out of the ring.
It was a relatively short match with a result that few were hoping to see, but it was a good match with solid back-and-forth action. There’s also a lot of room for continuing some of the rivalries that helped set up this match, so seeing what happens next is going to be interesting to watch unfold on SmackDown this week.
