The build to the Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss match may have rubbed some fans the wrong way, despite Nia feeling like it was being laid out the right way and sending the right message about body image and bullying.
WrestleMania results 2018: Nia takes the RAW Women’s Championship from Alexa Bliss
Alexa’s reign of bullying terror ended in New Orleans.
It was set up exactly as expected, with Alexa entering literally on a pedestal, Mickie James by her side.
Nia strolled down the ramp bedecked in black and gold and ready to get things started, taking care of James first with multiple barricade whips that looked like they put the fear of God in Bliss.
Next up was Alexa, who lost the upper hand almost immediately as Nia tossed her around before bench pressing her over her head and tossing her to the canvas. Alex, who looked as if she landed weirdly, stumbled out of the ring and over to her championship belt as if she was all out of options but she wasn’t going down without a fight.
Alexa worked her way back into it and eventually stood on Nia’s back and neck, took out her knee, and got some momentum under her. But then when she thought she had Nia backed into a corner for good, the ref didn’t count it out correctly and Alexa threw one of her signature tantrums.
Nia got things back on her side by screaming “Shut the hell up!” and pulling a slam/clothesline combo on Alexa, which Bliss responded to with an eye rake. With multiple Jax slams sandwiching that eye rake though there wasn’t much Alexa could do. Nia wrapped up the win by reverse body slamming Alexa off of the second rope.
In the lead up to this year’s Mania it sure looked like this storyline could only work (and possible even be redeemed, if you strongly disliked the decision making here) if Nia won. So it’s great that she did and now she and Alexa, real life besties, can go toast to an awesome match and an end to this storyline.
