‘Miz and Mrs.’ Hitz and Misses: Surprise Maryse, you’re giving birth!

Miz might not know how pregnancy exams work but he’s more than ready to be a dad.

Here we are in the fourth week of Miz and Mrs. which continues to be the perfect balance of bonkers and sincere. Maryse is getting ever-closer to giving birth and the shenanigans continue apace in that area, with Miz kind of seeming like he doesn’t know how to talk about pregnancy this week. Ah, first time parenting.

This week also brings us Miz’s return to Cleveland and, oh yeah, that whole MARYSE GIVING BIRTH thing so without further ado, here’s this weeks Hitz and Misses from the most important episode of the series so far.

Hit — Everything involving Monroe’s birth

Usually these recaps go in as close to chronological order as makes sense. But this week, the most important stuff definitely came at the end of the episode so we’re switching things up a bit. Because every step of this birth was so sweet, and lovely, and really heartwarming to watch.

First off, Maryse having to wait seven hours to have her C-section because she wasn’t expecting it to happen that day and she ate a bunch of macaroni and cheese beforehand is relatable as hell. The only downside of Monroe being born might be the loss of the “Maryse eats a ton while pregnant” running gag.

The sincerity and excitement from Miz was the highlight though, and not to overreact to much here but one of the things that’s really nice about reality TV. Sure, the majority of it is staged or reactions are played to the cheap seats so that everyday events seem more exciting. But getting to watch Miz — a sarcastic goofball who’s never seen a chance to perform and passed it by — get emotional about finally being a dad was genuinely beautiful.

From putting Monroe’s first outfit on, to his pure devotion to her in every way, to barely being able to contain himself while he waited in the hallway at the beginning of the C-section, every piece of it was so sweet. Sure, you’d expect that from someone about to be a parent for the first time but that doesn’t make witnessing it any less amazing.

Look at this and tell me you don’t get a little emotional at the look on his face.

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mock him a little bit for making the VAR signal in reference to Maryse’s pelvic exam which is ... not how pregnancy checkups work Miz. But everything else was beautiful.

Miss — Miz wanting to wear a GoPro in the delivery room

While I admire his enthusiasm, Miz attempting to wearing a helmet-mounted GoPro in the to the birth is too much enthusiasm. It did give us lines like Maryse saying “my stomach is getting cut open for real, you’re not going to be standing next to me looking like you’re going into a mine,” her getting so mad she started yelling in French, and this photo of disappointed Miz after Maryse said it looked like he was wearing a dildo. But the idea itself? Huge miss.

Hit — Dolph Ziggler being the voice of reason

  • Dolph is giving Marjo a run for her money as the best sidekick on this show. Last week we had him doing an infant CPR course alongside Miz, and this week we had him shutting down Miz’s bad ideas before he could even start explaining it.

Miz: Tell me if this is a smart thing.

Dolph: I’m already going to say no, because I can see it on your face.

...

Dolph: Maryse said what?

Miz: No.

Dolph: There you go.

Everyone should get themselves a Dolph.

Miss — Miz going back to Cleveland

Listen, I know Miz is from Cleveland. And dunking on Cleveland is so easy for many reasons. But man, besides that awesome mural waiting for him Miz didn’t seem that excited to actually be back in Cleveland. Sure, it’s nice to perform in front of home town fans but you don’t have to pretend Cleveland’s the best place on Earth, Miz. It’s fine! You live in LA now! You can admit one might be better than the other!

This is not the face of someone who enjoys hanging out in Cleveland. This is the face of someone who would like to escape Cleveland.

Hit — Miz’s dad telling him his favorite wrestler is The Rock

OK so maybe one good thing came out of Miz and his dad hanging out in Cleveland and going on radio with his dad was George saying his favorite wrestler is The Rock instead of his son. Which seems like it’s a recurring thing in their relationship and to that I’d like to say good bit, George. Keep it up.

Miss — Miz not just being nice to his dad’s friends.

Sure he didn’t seem that excited to be back in Ohio and was getting annoyed at his dad not calling him his favorite wrestler, but it’s the easiest thing in the world to just be nice to your dad’s friends who clearly love you and are big fans. If you’re going to go to Ohio and if you’re going to go to dinner with your dad who has clearly pulled the “hey some friends are here that want to meet you” move before, you can’t then be frustrated that this happens. Just sign some stuff and shake some hands and smile. For your dad’s sake.

The hometown fans are why you were excited to go back to Cleveland in the first place, riiiight?

Hit — Maryse bribing Marjo so she wouldn’t be mad

Breaking rough news to a parent is always tricky and Marjo can’t be an easy person to let down, so luckily Maryse has enough disposable income to buy her mom a Louis Vuitton bag while she does it. Marjo then turning the tables by accepting the news and immediately asking to go shopping for Louboutins was even better.

Hit — Miz’s pre-pregnancy gift to Maryse

Miz giving Maryse a ring with their daughter’s name on it as a pre-pregnancy present would have been enough of a moment in itself. Especially when you add in Maryse using an errant piece of tissue paper to try to dry her eyes once she saw what it was.

But Miz doing that while wearing a Baby Bjoyn carrying Pumpkin the dog? A damn near perfect moment.

Bonus Hit — This week’s Maryse Face

Flawless.
