FirstCuts: New Wii Sports, Snowboarding Games

While the rumored new version of Punchout was not announced by Nintendo at E3 today -- and in my eyes, that makes it an epic failure -- there was some other sports gaming related news to pass along from the presentation.↵

↵↵Wii Sports Resort, the next generation of the packaged-in Wii Sports, was demoed and looked like good times. I’m not sure how swordsmanship fits into the sports brand, but it’s there. You’ll also be able to toss a Frisbee with a dog and ride a jet ski. In other words, it’s more like Wii Sports Ninja And Leisure.↵

↵↵Shaun White Snowboarding was demoed with Wii Balance Board support, which had been known for some time. The game looked fun, although admittedly I missed the release date as I was confused by how much White looks like Carrot Top. It has a rough date of Oct. 2008, according to IGN. ↵

↵↵Wii Motion Plus, an add-on peripheral for the Wii Remote, was announced, and frankly it looked pretty impressive. I’ve lamented the fact that moving the Wii Remote in certain directions seems to mean you lose contact with the receiver. This attachment seems to enhance the experience and relay all of your subtle motions in real time. Watching the brief demonstration where it showed every small turn of the participant’s wrist and arm was a good sign for the future of the console.↵
