ASG Lasting Impressions: MLB Players Care Not For Expensive Time Pieces

Chris Mottram spent the past five days in New York City blogging from the MLB All-Star Game. This is the second of his posts recapping the experience.

↵
↵It is entirely possible that some of the All-Stars own watches more impressive than David Wright’s, but based on what I witnessed during the media-player clusterfudge in New York on Monday, none of them do. And this is sad, because Wright’s watch wasn’t all that impressive, relatively speaking:↵

↵↵

↵↵That watch you see above is a Breitling Bentley special edition, which starts at around $7,300. Add in all the various diamonds that Wright has on his, and it could be worth substantially more. Sure, Wright’s wearing your house’s down payment on his wrist, but compare this watch to the $300,000 watch Larry Johnson was sporting in Arizona and you’ll realize there’s no contest: NFLers got the time piece game on lock. This is disappointing, too, because MLBers make more money, generally speaking, than NFLers. Wright’s earning $5.3 mill this season, and he’s steppin’ out in New York City – at an All-Star event, no less -- wearing that broke-ass Breitling? Best step your paper up, playboy. This ain’t Chesapeake, Virginia. ↵
