Jeremy Shockey Traded to Saints; Giants Become Infinitely More Sufferable

As if the city of New Orleans hasn’t been through enough in recent history, it now must brace itself for this: Jeremy Shockey.
↵
↵The word is that he’s been traded to the Saints for two draft picks -- second and fifth rounders. (His exact reaction to this news can be seen to the right.) No word yet on whether those picks are both in next year’s draft, but that seems like a lot to give up for a guy who’s really just totally average in a position that is easily filled with adequate bodies (see: Kevin Boss). The ‘Skins just gave up a second and sixth round pick for Jason Taylor, who I have to believe is more of an impact player than Shockey at this point in their careers, even at the over-the-hill age of 33.↵↵People who know more about football than me (see: Vinnie Iyer) are pounding away at the keyboard now, so I’ll provide their wisdom here when available. In the mean time, I’ll be busy reevaluating who my least favorite NFC East player is now that Shockey has left this void in my hateful heart. ↵
↵↵Update: Vinnie Iyer calls it a win-win, and says the deal makes the Saints the best NFC team not named the Giants, Cowboys, Redskins or Eagles. ↵
