You know, I could write an entire article on the fantasy stat dysfunction that is the Oakland Raiders. I won't, but I could. Well...OK, maybe just a few...
Fantasy Stat Breakdown: Week 3
- Raiders' QB JaMarcus Russell has a total of 378 passing yards in three games. Four quarterbacks have had 378 passing yards or more in a single game this season. One of those guys was Kevin Kolb for crying out loud!
- Another one of those guys was Phillip Rivers. In the 2004 Draft, the Raiders passed on Rivers to take offensive lineman Robert Gallery with the #2 overall pick. Rivers was drafted #4. Ouch, Rivers turned out to be pretty good.
- By the way, the guys drafted #3 and #5 that year? WR Larry Fitzgerald and safety Sean Taylor. They turned out to be pretty good, too.
- Marques Colston has as many receiving touchdowns (3) as the Raiders, Browns and Dolphins combined.
- Lions win! Lions win! Hey, forget that, more important to fantasy owners is that RB Kevin Smith looked good with a 16 rush, 101 yard game. This year Smith has 204 rushing yards; through the first three games last season he only had 112 rushing yards.
- It’s easy (and fun) to mock the Redskins, but Jason Campbell threw for 340 yards and two TDs in that game. Campbell is actually 9th in the league in passing yards ahead of Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Eli Manning and Carson Palmer. Hands up who saw that coming.
- Fifteen of Vincent Jackson’s sixteen catches this season have been for a first down.
- The Buccaneers benched QB Byron Leftwich this week. Considering the team only gave the ball to their RBs a total of SEVEN times on Sunday (For a total of ten yards! Whoo!) I don’t think Tampa’s problems are entirely Leftwich’s fault.
- Through three weeks, RB Michael Turner is averaging a full yard per carry less than he did last year. He’s also getting about two fewer carries per game. That’s not good.
- The Colts racked up 505 total net yards against the defending NFC champs. Whew.
- Despite a combined 130 attempts by Steven, Fred, Tarvaris and DeSean, nobody with the last name of Jackson has a rushing touchdown this year.
- The NFL’s scoring leader is RB Willis McGahee with six touchdowns (five rushing, one receiving). He’s outscoring every kicker in the league and I think he’s beaten at least one of my teams every week this season. I hate that guy.
