The Yankees are an incredibly talented offensive ballclub with good frontline starting pitching and excellent relief. They should beat the Twins with these abilities. Tonight, they did.
Game 1 Recap: That’s a Yankees Win, in Every Sense of the Word
You can see the full statistical breakdown here, but let me save you time (unless you’re one of those baseball fans that LIKES stats, you DIRTY NERD): C.C. Sabathia pitched a solid seven innings, the Yankees’ relief was solid, and the Yankees offense did what it does best: crushed the ball. It was the sort of prototypical ur-win really good baseball teams get when they’re totally in control. They score runs, pitch well, and hold the game down in relief. Not all that complicated, really, unless you’re a baseball fan, and you realize just how rare teams get this thing right. In other words, these Yankees are good.
There’s plenty more to discuss, to be sure, so for your Yankees thread, hit Pinstripe Alley, and for Twins talk, head over to Twinkie Town. These two teams will reprise their series in Game Two on Friday night at 6:07 p.m. EST. Until then.
