Tom Cable was recently cleared of the charges that he got into a fight with assistant coach Randy Hanson, allegedly as the aggressor. Good news. Or at least, tepid news that allows Cable to move forward. That was until ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” released a story today that not one but two women in Cable’s life are alleging that he was physically violent towards them in the past. Those women are Cable’s first wife and a former girlfriend. His second wife also alluded to violence in court documents but has since released a statement saying that Cable was not in fact violent towards her.

↵For his part, Cable released a statement today admitting that one time in his life he hit a woman but only once. Good idea. Smart move to react quick, dent the allegations and do so in a mature manner. Then again, I guess you could also release a statement that puts the blame of your own violent behavior on your former spouse.
↵↵“More than 20 years ago, during my first marriage, I became aware that my wife Sandy had committed adultery. I became very angry and slapped her with an open hand. What I did was wrong and I have regretted and felt sorrow about that moment ever since.”
↵↵Yeesh. As the Cable family dirty laundry continues to get aired, it will be curious to see if and when Roger Goodell gets involved. If Cable were a player, he’s probably be suspended by now. If not soon.
