Federal Baseball: Riggleman Expresses Confidence, Speculates On Strasburg In DC
Our own Washington Nationals blog, Federal Baseball, sat in on Jim Riggleman’s conference call Friday. Riggleman, who was named full-time manager of the Nationals on Wednesday, is “confident” that he will be able to do the job. It also sounds as though the coaching staff could be shaken up.
Riggleman also answers speculation on whether pitching superprospect/demigod Stephen Strasburg will be called up to the big leagues at any point in 2010. For this and more, check out Federal Baseball’s report.

In the meantime, the Nats fans at Federal Baseball seem tentatively against the Riggleman hiring. The comments are few — the news is still new — but what reaction there is is pretty overwhelmingly negative. Oh, to be a Nationals fan.

Riggleman took over 26-61 team at the halfway point of the season and led them to a 33-42 record down the stretch. Whether he’s receiving too much of the credit for that improvement is almost beside the point: Riggelman is a quietly capable manager who will do just about as good a job as anyone else, which, given the minimal effects most managers seem to have on their clubs (at least measured in production), is just fine indeed.
