Texans head coach Gary Kubiak shed little light onto the Texans’ running back situation in his press conference on Monday. Asked about how Ryan Moats and Steve Slaton would be used after Slaton’s benching last week, Kubiak merely said that the team would need all three of its running backs (along with Chris Brown) as they moved forward. Kubiak further indicated that they might use different backs for different downs, raising the possibility of Slaton being used as a third down back.
Gary Kubiak Gives Few Clues As To RB Committee
↵While we won’t know anything definitive about Slaton’s role before this weekend’s showdown against the Colts, if you have a strong roster and can afford to take a risk, now might be an opportune time to make a lowball offer to a desperate and anxious Slaton owner. While Slaton could very well be relegated to a Reggie Bush-type role, there is simply too much upside for him in that offense - especially now that Owen Daniels is out for the season - to give up on him. The Texans coaches surely won’t, and neither should you.
