With the NFL season at its halfway mark, there are few if any game-changing players on the waiver wire. But there are still plenty of wideouts who can be useful WR3/4s in useful matchups. K.C. Joyner is back on the case with two of the bigger pickups of the week, one we already profiled, and another an injury afterthought:
WR Options For The WR Needy
Malcom Floyd, Chargers, available in 98.7 percent of ESPN leagues
Floyd was finally inserted into the Chargers’ starting lineup for the struggling Chris Chambers on Sunday. His 64 yards on two receptions might not sound like much, but San Diego was committed to pounding the ball against a weak Raiders run D, so it shouldn’t be seen as an oracle to his future as the No. 3 receiving threat in one of the best passing attacks around. Matchups against the Giants, Chiefs and Browns in three of the next five games should give Floyd plenty of opportunities to showcase his considerable vertical receiving skills.Bernard Berrian, Vikings, available in 25.3 percent of ESPN leagues
Berrian was high on the draft list for many fantasy owners this year (No. 70 average draft slot), but a slew of those owners gave up on him last week after he posted only seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in his previous three games. His ownership dropped by 11.7 percent, and it is the key reason he is available in one out of four ESPN leagues.Put simply, he should not be available in any leagues. He has a bye this week but after that, the Vikings face Detroit and Seattle back to back. Berrian will be a high-upside flex pick at the very least in those contests and it is rare to find that kind of upside on the waiver wire this time of year.
