Heads are rolling (again) in the Spartan ranks following last month’s on-campus melée.
Eight More Michigan State Football Players Suspended In Brawl Aftermath
Safety Roderick Jenrette and running back Glenn Winston were dismissed from the team almost immediately for the ubiquitous and shadowy "violation of team rules", and according to the Detroit Free Press, an MSU statement released today confirms their involvement in the altercation. Eight more players have now been suspended, including three starters (Mark Dell, B.J. Cunningham and Chris L. Rucker). Police are seeking five additional suspects, so while it's not clear there is further player involvement, the attrition might not be through just yet.
As long as the matter remains under investigation, SBN’s Spartan crew at The Only Colors are holding fast to their hard-line housecleaning stance toward the suspended players:
Will I root for the team--and by extension the suspended players--if they’re reinstated? Well, of course, I will. Being a sports fan is an inherently irrational endeavor. But I honestly believe that a fresh start is going to be much better for Mark Dantonio’s tenure as MSU head coach in the long run, even it means a losing 2010 campaign. More importantly, the reputation of the university, and it’s alumni/supporters, should come first.
