No Foolin’
Sixteen years ago today NASCAR lost it’s then current Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki, in an airplane crash.
16 years. Man.
I was never really a fan of Alan’s, I was more indifferent than anything to him really. I mean the man drove a Ford after all.
But still he had something about him that even non-fans could appreciate.
His focus, drive and determination.
Alan remains the last single car team with an owner/dirver combo to win the Cup Championship - that says something.
He was always the underdog, so much so he named his Ford Thunderbird “The Underbird” and I think he liked being the underdog against the Roushes, Childresses, Hendrickes, and the like - he relished it and it made him work harder. So hard in fact that he won the Championship in 1992.
NASCAR lost a good one there when they lost Alan.
