Wha? Michigan Offers Greg Paulus Scholarship

All this “Greg Paulus trying out for various football teams” stuff served as some cute little excuses to mock the Duke guard one last time before he rode off into the sunset. I don’t think any of us though he’d actually end up playing for a big time program (and certainly not in the NFL). But it looks like the joke may be on us: Rich Rod wants him to play for Michigan. Seriously:↵↵⇥Paulus, the former Duke point guard who is weighing his career options and visited Michigan’s spring practice on Tuesday, said this morning that U-M coach Rich Rodriguez has extended him an offer to join the Wolverines. ↵⇥↵⇥“There is an opportunity to do that at Michigan,” Paulus said on the Dan Patrick radio show. “There is an opportunity at Michigan to continue my academic education in the graduate program there and compete in football.” ↵⇥
↵↵As Spencer pointed out yesterday when these Michigan rumors were all fun and game, Tate Forcier has pretty much solidified himself as the Wolverines starting QB next season. So, essentially, Paulus would come on to be a second or (more likely) third string player for one year. Which actually seems like a great gig: be part of one of the most prestigious football programs in the country for a season, while at the same time enjoying one more year of the good life before entering the real world. ↵↵Keep in mind, though, that Paulus still hasn’t accepted Rich Rod’s offer. Syracuse and Duke are both reportedly among teams interested in his footballing services. I’m not sure how Paulus became the hottest football recruit in the nation, but wherever he ends up this season, he certainly owes the Packers a thank you note for stirring this whole mess up.↵
