17 Tries Before First Win at Texas
Jeff Gordon brings home the six-shooters for Rick Hendrick after winning for his first time ever at the Texas Motor Speedway.
I actually found myself cheering for Gordon to win for two reasons;
- So it can put a lid on all those people who are saying “when will Jeff win again?” Blah, blah, blah, ... I knew he’d win again, so now everyone else can give it a rest.
- I picked Jeff to win over at Onebadwheel.com’s experts pick list. But you know what? I forgot to send my pick into onpitrow.com’s ‘One and Done’ fantasy league. Man that sucks. Oh well.
Speaking of fantasy leagues I’ve moved up in the standings in the NPO/4ever3 Free NASCAR Pool. I’m currently 16th and 18 points out of first place!
Now here are some of my observations about today’s race in Texas:
- The two most talked about crew chiefs in NASCAR; LaTarte and Eury Jr are still being talked about, but for different reasons Latarte is having a good season so far, but Eury Jr is having another season like the last few years and people are still talking.
- In Eury’s defense, it was Jr who missed the pit stall.
- In Earnhardt’s defense, nobody in his pit area was doing anything to get his attention, or talk to him over the radio and count down the pit stalls to his stall.
- Do you see where I’m going with this? Communication is still a problem with that team.
- Ever since the atart of the season I have noticed an increase in poor pit stops by a lot of teams, and not just Jr’s. Carl Edwards must be beside himself right now after that bad pit stop at the end of the race that lost him, what 11 positions? I wonder if he was threating to punch his front tire changer after the race?
- O.k. I don’t think Kyle Busch intentially hit Dale Jr so all you Busch haters can just cork it.
- O.k. I do think Kyle Busch got what he deserved after delibertly hitting Andretti and cut his own tire down in the process causeing him to lose 2 laps. Heh, looks good on him.
- What about Johnson and Martin? They had some pretty good runs for sure.
- Speaking of good runs what about Tony Stewart and Montoya. I’m beginning to think that Stewart will win a race this year with his new team, it is just a matter of time.
- Did you notice who had a very quiet day, but still ended up in the top 10? Kurt Busch. Hmm ... do you think Penske has turned it around? Still too early to tell, but he’s on the right track.
- Allmendinger is really showing Red Bull that they should have kept him isn’t he? Where did Scott Speed finish today? Oops, he didn’t qualify for the race. The ‘Dinger is sitting just about 100 points out of 12th and Speed is about 450 points out of 12th. Hmm ...
Well thats it for now, tune in tomorrow when I’ll go on a rant about D.W.‘s catch phrase. See you then.
