Mark Teixeira Has No Understanding of the Basic Laws of Rooting Interests

Here’s the thing about being an Orioles fan: You must hate the Yankees. You have no choice. This is engrained within you from birth; something you just know without ever being taught. Like breathing. Or loving blue crab. I grew up an O’s fan -- I know how it goes.↵↵Tex grew up in nearby Severna Park, Maryland and played high school ball in Baltimore. Naturally, you’d think he was a die-hard O’s fan and dedicated Yankee hater. Except there’s this, which should only serve to amp up Balitmore’s booing of him:↵
↵↵⇥“I rooted for Don Mattingly, though, whenever he came here,” Teixeira said. “He was my favorite player growing up. When the Yankees came to town, that’s who I rooted for. I loved him. He was my guy. I wore No. 23 every chance I got. So the only time I was allowed to wear Yankees stuff was when Mattingly was coming to town and playing the O’s.” ↵⇥↵⇥So every other day, you were in Orioles’ gear? ↵⇥
↵⇥↵⇥“Oh yeah. My favorite team was always the Orioles. I’ve always said that,” he said. “But when the Yankees were in town, I’d wear a Mattingly T-shirt and a Yankees hat and root for him.” ↵⇥
↵↵You know, I really didn’t have any problem with Teixeira signing with the Yanks instead of the O’s. They offered him about $30 million more and they’re a better team. It’s business. Fine. But this bit about rooting for the O’s and Yankees? Not cool. You are a horrible person and I now hate you, Mark Teixeira. Good luck sleeping at night on your piles of cash knowing that. ↵↵(My favorite player growing up? Ken Griffey, Jr. This, however, is acceptable because he didn’t play for the immediate rival of my favorite team. See how that works, kids?) ↵
