David Staples Takes a Look at Comrie’s First Stint with the Oilers

David Staples of the Edmonton Journal has a good piece that he wrote yesterday about Comrie’s first experience with the Oilers.

Mike Comrie came to Edmonton hailed as a hockey phenom, a new hometown hero, the new Mark Messier, the best news to hit Oil Country in years. And, for a time, everything worked out according to the script, with Comrie earning a spot on the team, then on the first line, centering Ryan Smyth and Anson Carter on a dynamic line.

And then things went very bad, very quickly. . . .

Mike Comrie had a very tumultuous ride with the team that selected him 91st overall in the 1999 Entry Draft to being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003.
