Mike Comrie Signs With Oilers...Again

According to the invaluable salary site CapGeek, Mike Comrie will earn slightly more than a million dollars as an Oiler this season.

David Staples of the Edmonton Journal has a good piece that he wrote yesterday about Comrie’s first experience with the Oilers.

Mike Comrie had a very tumultuous ride with the team that selected him 91st overall in the 1999 Entry Draft to being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003.

James Mirtle of From The Rink also questions the wisdom of the Oilers bringing back Hilary Duff’s boyfriend. He adds his voice to the growing chorus of Comrie naysayers in his story on the signing:

The impending Comrie signing was hardly a surprise to anyone paying any attention to the Edmonton Oilers or Comrie himself, it seems.

How Comrie is received in Edmonton will be one of the big things to watch for this preseason. On the one hand, he is a hometown guy who was well-liked in Edmonton for years. But on the other, he held out thirty games into his last season with the team before getting shipped out. A mix of boos and cheers should be expected - to be replaced by solid cheers once he scores his first goal.
