Mike Comrie's return to Edmonton shows that yes, you can go home again (what, you thought we could resist that one?).
Mike Comrie Signs With Oilers...Again
Comrie, who is most famous outside the NHL for dating Hilary Duff and most famous inside the NHL for dating Hilary Duff, signed a one-year deal to play for the same Edmonton Oilers team he had a bitter falling out with in 2003 when he held out during a contract dispute.
As per the team’s press release:
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with centre Mike Comrie on a one-year contract.
Comrie, originally drafted by Edmonton in the third round (91st overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, rejoins the Oilers after having played here from 2000-2003. The 28-year-old has also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators. Comrie has posted 154 goals and 184 assists for 338 points in 525 games in the NHL.
How Comrie is received in Edmonton will be one of the big things to watch for this preseason. On the one hand, he is a hometown guy who was well-liked in Edmonton for years. But on the other, he held out thirty games into his last season with the team before getting shipped out. A mix of boos and cheers should be expected - to be replaced by solid cheers once he scores his first goal.
