This is the second year in a row that rain has pushed the men’s final at the U.S. Open back to Monday. This the result of losing an entire day of matches on Friday due to rain.
Don’t Expect a Roof Over Arthur Ashe Anytime Soon
↵So, as was the case last year, the idea of putting a roof over Ashe — like they’ve done at Wimbledon — is being brought up again. Obviously, it would be a welcome addition, but is it practical?
↵U.S. Tennis Association executive director Gordon Smith thinks not:
↵↵“So the question is, are you going to spend $100 million or more, we don’t know exactly, on a roof that you might use once a year, which would be the average,” Smith said. “Or is the money better spent promoting the game that we have been promoting so successfully?”
