Randy Ruiz Gets a Hit, Gets Hit in the Same Inning

In the fifth inning of today’s Blue Jays-Yankees game, the Jays’ Randy Ruiz hit an RBI single and eventually came around to score. The team batted around, and later in the inning Ruiz took the plate again. Pitcher Josh Towers (inadvertently, it appears) drilled him in the face. (Video here.) This is historic, in that it has to be one of the only instances in which a batter knocks in a run and is hit in the face in the same inning. so at least he has reason to smile. If he can smile. Ouch.
