Yes, The UFL is Willing to Go With Helmet Ads

The UFL has yet to hold a game, but the nascent football league is already doing its best to entertain us with each subsequent announcement. First, there were the unveiled uniforms -- slight variations on the theme of fugly. Then, we found out that J.P. Losman would probably be the face of the league.

↵↵Now we hear that those uniforms will be adorned with advertisements. The San Francisco-based league entered into a deal with ticket reselling site StubHub that promises “on-field and on-helmet exposure” during national telecasts.↵

↵↵Considering NFL teams trotted out team practice jerseys featuring ads this year -- most famously the Spongetech-branded Bengals jerseys seen on HBO’s Hard Knocks -- it seems like a natural progression (or regression, depending on how you view it) that a future developmental league for the NFL would seize on similar tactics for their games.↵

↵↵The helmet, though, seems like more sacrosanct territory. It’s where commemorative decals for the deceased have typically gone, not to mention that little American flag that appears on the back. Then again, this isn’t the NFL we’re dealing with. The UFL aims to fill a niche and be financially sound while doing so. ↵
