USC’s QB Matt Barkley Has Wrist Surgery

With Pete Carroll gone to the NFL and Lane Kiffin back in town, any Trojan news is good news ... except when it involves the words “starting quarterback” and “surgery” in the same sentence.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, USC’s QB Matt surgery had minor wrist surgery:

The university said the surgery was intended to relieve stiffness in Barkley’s wrist and clean up inflammation.

Apparently this isn't major surgery and he should be available for spring practices, but it does add an interesting wrinkle in the quarterback depth, especially with Pete no longer there to give Matt carte blanche on everything. Perhaps this is a start of a very interesting qb battle between Barkley, Mitch Mustain, and even Dillon Baxter.
