The 2,000-Yard Rusher Possibly Squaring Off Against the World’s Fastest Man. (Or Maybe Not.)

↵↵Now that the Titans season is over, Chris Johnson can finally concentrate on what appears to be a singular obsession of his: staging footraces against every professional athlete in the world. I think a television executive out there is missing out on a successful reality show where the running back challenges all comers to dashes, each more gimmicky than the last.↵

↵↵To recap: Johnson made noise by challenging the Celtics’ Rajon Rondo on Twitter to a race a few weeks ago. That either never materialized or the results were kept secret. I’m guessing the former, given how much Johnson wants to blab online about running. It came out weeks later that Johnson had challenged Ted Ginn Jr. to a race in the off-season, one that Ginn reportedly backed away from.↵

↵↵Now, the NFL’s leading rusher wants to go for the sprinting grail by going head to head with Usain Bolt, the world record-holder in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.↵

↵↵The nature of Bolt’s gold medal runs suggests that Johnson might actually have a chance to beat him in a 40-yard dash. One calculation shows Bolt’s 40 time would only be a 4.35, which seems odd given his title as the fastest human on Earth. However, the more gradual acceleration one needs for the Olympic distance runs suggests that the football player would have an advantage in the shorter race. ↵

↵↵BUZZKILL UPDATE: Bolt’s agent says this thing isn’t happening. We’ve still got hope for a Chris Johnson-Rajon Rondo race, right? (H/T to Brooks on the update.)↵
