January 6, 2010 – Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) – Kevin Jones finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, as eighth-ranked West Virginia dominated Rutgers, 86-52, in Big East play.

Da’Sean Butler and Darryl Bryant each added 15 points for the Mountaineers (12-1, 3-0 Big East), who were coming off their first loss of the season, a 77-62 setback at Purdue on New Year’s Day.

Devin Ebanks had 11 points and nine boards in the victory.

Jonathan Mitchell scored 17 points to pace the Scarlet Knights (9-5, 0-2), who were held to their lowest point total of the season. Rutgers, which has lost three in a row, also got 11 points from Mike Rosario.

Nearing the midway point of the first half, Bryant hit a jumper and Cam Thoroughman followed with a three-point play to put WVU ahead 20-7.

The Mountaineers continued to lead by double digits, then used an 11-2 run late in the half to expand their advantage further. Bryant’s basket with 3 1/2 minutes remaining capped the rally to make it a 43-24 contest, and West Virginia led 47-30 at the break.

The hosts essentially put the game away by beginning the second half with an 18-2 stretch, which Dalton Pepper ended with consecutive threes. The shots put WVU up 65-32 with just under 15 minutes to play, and the Mountaineers cruised from there.
