Louisville 92, Providence 70: Edgar Sosa Leads Cardinals To Win

January 6, 2010 – Providence, RI (Sports Network) – Edgar Sosa buried five three-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points, as the Louisville Cardinals rolled to a 92-70 win over the Providence Friars in Big East play at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Samardo Samuels added 17 points and nine rebounds for Louisville (11-4, 2-0 Big East), while Jerry Smith scored 14 in the win.

Marshon Brooks paced Providence (9-6, 1-2) with 21 points in a losing effort. Bilal Dixon and Sharaud Curry each scored 12, and Vincent Council tallied 11 points off the bench.

The Friars had the hot hand in the first half, as they knocked down 5-of-10 threes and shot 51.7 percent from the floor. Providence led by as many as eight in the final minute, though Louisville cut the margin to 42-37 at the break.

The Cardinals took control in the second stanza with a 61.3-percent shooting effort from the floor, which included 6-of-10 accuracy from the perimeter.

In addition to their second-half surge, the Cardinals also enjoyed a significant 45-21 rebounding advantage for the game. They held a 17-9 margin on the offensive glass, which led to a 23-2 edge in second-chance points.
