Saturday's game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders was kind of insane. 122 minutes in penalties, goalies calling out players on multiple occasions, a triple minor. It was fun -- if you like Old Time Hockey.
Danny Briere Suspended Three Games For Sticking Incident
Tensions were high on both sides. Frans Nielsen of the Islanders wasn't too happy with Danny Briere of the Flyers, and with a minute left in the third period, he let Briere know it by screaming at him before the face off.
That’s when all hell broke loose.
For that nasty stick swing off the face off, Briere was handed a three-game suspension by the NHL today. Given his history of questionable stick work and the nasty visual in that video, it’s hard to argue that the three games aren’t fair.
When you compare the suspension with other suspensions from around the league this season, however, things get a little more cloudy. But we learned long ago that the NHL has no consistency and that comparing suspension to suspension is an exercise in futility.
The Flyers and Islanders meet up again next Saturday at Nassau Coliseum. That will be the third game of Briere’s suspension.
