Ronaldinho Reportedly Offered $10 Million A Year To Come To Galaxy

The Ronaldinho-to-Galaxy rumor refuses to die. Numerous outlets are saying the one-time Ballon d’Or winner has been offered $10 million a year to play for the Galaxy. The trouble is, all of them cite Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport as the source of this rumor, but none of them link to the original article.

Whether or not this is just more smoke (during the summer it was widely rumored Ronaldinho was poised to join the Galaxy before the start of the European season) obviously remains to be seen.

What it does seem to indicate is the Galaxy remain very interested in acquiring the services of another one of the most famous players in the world.

There does seem to be some logic to the potential move. Ronaldinho could be acquired without having to pay a transfer fee, something MLS has rarely been willing to pay and has helped facilitate the signing of players like Thierry Henry and David Beckham.

There’s also a sense that Ronaldinho could benefit from a change of scenery. He hasn’t played in either of AC Milan’s last two games and has just seven Serie-A appearances this season with no goals and three assists.

Although he’s three full seasons removed from his last truly great season at Barcelona and was left off the most recent Brazilian World Cup team, Ronaldinho still has obvious skills. He had 12 goals and 14 assists in 34 Serie A matches last season and is still capable of the awe-inspiring plays that have spawned legions of fans.
