On Saturday in Minneapolis, the No. 24 Iowa Hawkeyes will have to return to mid-season form in order to defeat lowly Minnesota and avoid a third consecutive loss to end the regular season. The Gophers, who have a 1-6 record in the Big Ten and are 2-9 overall, are giving the Hawkeyes a fight.
Iowa Vs. Minnesota: Gophers Threatening Upset Vs. No. 24 Hawkeyes
Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi has certainly played better games. Early in the third quarter, he was 7-for-15 with 82 yards through the air. Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber isn't looking any better, having completed 7 of 16 passes for 76 yards.
The Gophers’ lead is largely by virtue of their ground game. Four ball carriers -- including Weber -- have over 25 yards on the ground. They have amassed a total of 141 rushing yards, dwarfing Iowa’s 57.
The Hawkeyes ended the first quarter down 10-0 to Minnesota. They recovered well enough to post 17 points in the second quarter, but with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, Minnesota leads, 20-17. They just forced a punt from Iowa, and take over the ball near their own 20-yard line.
