It took over three quarters, but No. 24 Iowa finally took its first lead of the day against Minnesota. They’ll need to hold it in order to avoid ending their regular season with three consecutive losses.
Iowa Vs. Minnesota: Stanzi, Hawkeyes Finally Take First Lead Of Day
Late in the fourth quarter, the Gophers forced the Hawkeyes to punt from the back of their end zone. Ryan Donahue booted a spectacular punt that landed over the returner’s head, and Minnesota took over on their side of the field. The Gophers then drove into Iowa territory before running back DeLeon Eskridge fumbled the ball over to the Hawkeyes.
The Iowa offense took the field in top form, driving down the field with equal parts passing from Ricky Stanzi and rushing from Marcus Coker, who had been been relatively marginalized throughout the game by the Minnesota defense. The drive was capped when Stanzi threw a touchdown strike to his favorite target, receiver Marvin McNutt.
With just over ten minutes remaining, Iowa leads, 24-20. Minnesota has the ball.
