Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will be sent to Portland, Oregon, for a week to use Nike's training facilities to help him recover from his ankle injury. Of course, United have their own excellent facilities at their training ground, Carrington, so sending him halfway across the world seems unnecessary. The club hopes that getting Rooney away from the constant headlines and harassment from the press will help the recovery process.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Red Devils could benefit from having a separate building in which to quarantine players and staff. A virus caused four players to miss the trip to Turkey to face Bursaspor in the Champions League, and now manager Sir Alex Ferguson has come down with the same virus. Darren Gibson will miss Saturday's fixture with Wolverhampton, having still not recovered.
With Rooney off to the U.S., Ferguson struck down with a fever and Nani trying to recover from a groin injury, United might be the second straight Manchester team to fall to Wolves. Manchester City lost 2-1 at the Molineux last weekend.
