The Atlanta Falcons held on late in a key NFC South battle, putting away the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad that coach Raheem Morris proclaimed the NFC's best. Bucs QB Josh Freeman nearly pulled off his 17th (more or less?) fourth-quarter comeback of the season, but Falcons defenders stoned a fourth-and-one run on the goal line.

Freeman threw two picks, to DT Jonathan Babineaux and CB Brent Grimes, but a kick return for a touchdown by Michael Spurlock pulled Tampa within six entering the fourth quarter. WR Mike Williams continued his strong season, pulling in 89 yards and a touchdown that ended with him doing the Dirty Bird to the Georgia Dome's consternation.
Falcons RB Michael Turner ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 24 attempts. The Bucs held WR Roddy White to a season-low 49 yards at the expense of 72 and 55 yards to TE Tony Gonzalez and WR Michael Jenkins.
The Falcons are now 6-2, with a free and clear lead in the NFC South. They draw the Baltimore Ravens this Thursday night, while the Bucs get to play the Carolina Panthers.
