Al Harris is no longer with the Green Bay Packers. The team released Al Harris on Monday ending a long string of success he had with the Packers. Harris, a Pro Bowler as recently as 2007 and 2008, confirmed Sunday night to ESPN Milwaukee that he would be released on Monday.
Al Harris Released By Green Bay Packers After Knee Injury
“Yes, that is what they are going to do,” Harris said in a text message late Sunday night. “I lost my job to injury, but I have only good things to say about Green Bay and everyone I worked with.”
Harris has been on the PUP list after suffering a significant knee injury. SB Nation’s Acme Packing Company writes that Harris also has more depth at the corner position working against him.
CB Tramon Williams continues to improve since taking over as the starter (Ravens "armbar" game excepted), undrafted rookie CB Sam Shields has surprised many by taking over as the nickelback, the coaches still insist on playing CB Jarrett Bush, and CB Brandon Underwood is a decent option at the end of the bench.
We’re not quite sure where he stands with that injury but his agent, Jack Bechta, tells Joe Fortenbaugh of NFP that Harris has been ready to play for several weeks and “we expect he’ll be claimed by another team when the opportunity presents itself.” The question now becomes where Harris will go next. Teams will likely be interested under the condition that he’s fully healthy.
