It seems as though Sunday just ended, and with it Week 11 of the English Premier League, yet here we are again, back on the merry-go-round, with Week 12 starting today. Four teams drew the Tuesday short stick, with Stoke City hosting Birmingham City just before Sunderland travel to London to play Tottenham Hotspur.
English Premier League Tuesday: Birmingham City At Stoke Before Tottenham Hotspur Face Sunderland
The day starts with two clubs lingering in the bottom of the table, with Stoke in 17th, just above the relegation zone, and Birmingham in 15th with two more points. The Potters will be looking to striker Kenwyne Jones, who hasn't scored in the team's last five matches. Considering Stoke have lost in all five of those games-both league and cup-they will be hoping Jones can put one in the net. Traveling to the Britannia used to make teams nervous, but with Stoke having lost five of their last eleven matches at home, Birmingham are not likely to be unnerved. Instead, with goals hard to come by for Second City teams, City will concentrate on their organized defense to keep Stoke from finding a win.
Fifteen minutes after Stoke-Birmingham City kicks off, play in London begins. While Spurs pulled off an impressive Champions League win over Inter Milan last week, they're currently seventh in the league, sitting ahead of Sunderland on number of goals scored. Tottenham will likely have to do without Dutch Wonderkid Rafael Van der Vaart, who has a hamstring injury, with William Gallas and Aaron Lennon also doubts. Sunderland, once so reliant on the goal scoring abilities of Darren Bent, will be looking to summer pickup Asamoah Gyan, who scored a brace in his first Premier League start against Stoke.
