For the second time in her career, Belgium’s Kim Clijsters was named Player of the Year by the Women’s Tennis Association. In 2010, Clijsters won her third U.S. Open, as well as four other titles: Brisbane, Miami, Cincinnati and WTA Championships.

The 27-year-old mother was also recognized for her off-court achievements with the Player Service award.
"It's really nice to win the Player of the Year award just one year after making a comeback and while I didn't think it would come so quickly, I am thrilled with the news," Clijsters commented.
Belgium’s Justine Henin, Clijsters’ biggest on-court rival, received the Comeback Player of the Year award.
Other awards included: Czech Republic’s 20-year-old Petra Kvitova - newcomer of the year; Russia’s Maria Sharapova - humanitarian of the year; and Italy’s Flavia Pennetta and Argentina’s Gisela Dulko - doubles team of the year.
