Chargers running back Mike Tolbert sustained a possible neck injury early in the Chargers' game against the Bengals today and has been taken off the field on a stretcher.
Mike Tolbert Carted Off Field With Possible Neck Injury
Tolbert took a hit and fumbled the ball midway through the first quarter against the Bengals, then stayed down on the field for several minutes. He was carted from the field on a stretcher, but did manage to give a thumbs up to the crowd as he left.
Tolbert has been one of the surprises of the 2010 NFL season, rushing for 737 yards and 11 touchdowns entering today's game, thanks in part to his punishing running style and competitive spirit, but those things likely also contributed to him trying to make a tackle after losing his helmet against the 49ers earlier this month.
He will be replaced by rookie Ryan Mathews.
We’ll have further updates on Tolbert’s condition in this StoryStream as information becomes available.
