Earlier today Tatame reported that Vitor Belfort has been working through a shoulder injury and now it appeared that he wouldn’t compete against Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight strap at UFC 112. They were unable to get confirmation though.

Now Kevin Iole confirms the cancellation via Twitter:

Vitor Belfort is injured (shoulder) and off #UFC 112 title fight with Anderson Silva. Confirmed by @danawhite More details to come.

This is a HUGE blow to the middleweight division. We’ve been waiting for quite some time to see a legitimate challenger to Anderson Silva at 185 lbs but now we may be in for more waiting.

SB Nation will have more updates when details emerge.
