Shaq’s Foray into the Art World Attacks Obscure Concept of Size

↵↵Shaq is a man of manifold tastes, or at least open to varied ways to promote his brand. After trying with low culture pursuits such as appearing in horrible action movies and spitting hot garbage on hip-hop tracks, Shaq is aiming for the world of fine art. Or at least that world is aiming for him as a publicity stunt. I guess it worked, as Shaq is ↵helping curate a New York art exhibit that examines the always-underexamined concept of size. The exhibit, titled “Size DOES Matter” goes through May 27, and Shaq is so hands-on that he will appear at one private event for the organization that runs the gallery.↵

↵↵⇥They range from Robert Therrien’s colossal sculpture of a table and six chairs that dwarf even the Cleveland Cavalier center to a portrait of O’Neal by Willard Wigan that’s so tiny it can sit in the eye of a needle. ↵⇥↵⇥“Funny how it took an exhibit about size to get a 7-foot, 1-inch man like me on board,” O’Neal told The Post. “Size matters when it comes to me playing basketball or participating in law enforcement. Other than that, size can be an illusion.”↵⇥

↵↵

↵Yes, size can be illusory and deceptive, except for when it's concrete and absolute! Shaq's got this art thing nailed.↵

↵↵⇥He was especially drawn to Ron Mueck’s “Untitled (Big Man),” a nearly 7-foot-tall sculpture of a naked, bald man curled up awkwardly, elbows resting on his knees.↵⇥↵⇥Besides Wigan’s microscopic masterpiece, several other pieces commissioned for the show also feature O’Neal as their subject. A collage by Mark Wagner, for example, is made up of dollar bills cut and glued together to create four portraits of the basketball great.↵⇥

↵↵↵Better hold on to that one for when Shaq curates the “Greed is GOOD” exhibit a few years down the road.↵
