Vitali Klitschko To Mash Fewer Faces in Retirement

38-year-old WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko announced on Wednesday that he will be stepping down from boxing at the end of this year. With every heavyweight division controlled by he or his brother Wladimir, Vitali has only designs on WBA champ David Haye, who Klitschko would likely face if Haye is victorious over John Ruiz on April 3.
And for people tired of having their faces mashed in, let’s hope that he gets what he wants.⇥“I only have one belt left to win. So this year, I will hang up my⇥boxing gloves. And I’ll stop visiting different cities to beat⇥somebody’s face in.“I suppose that stands in contrast to your typical retirement spiel. Given that he has aims on furthering his political career (he’s already a Kyiv city council member who has run for mayor once) perhaps face beatings aren’t the best approach to that end. The political opposition might think twice before sandbagging him, though.
