Ozzie Guillen to Put MLB Network Censors to the Test

In what must create the most potential for inappropriate dialogue in a reality show (sports division) since HBO’s Hard Knocks stuck a mic in front of Chad Ochocinco last year, the MLB Network has announced that it will be making the White Sox the subject of its next reality series, The Club.↵↵⇥From spring training through the trade deadline this July 31, a camera crew will follow around [manager Ozzie] Guillen, general manager Kenny Williams and owner Jerry Reinsdorf to give baseball fans an inside look at what actually goes on within a baseball organization during a season. ↵⇥↵⇥“The core of our baseball operations staff has been together now for many years,” said Ken Williams, White Sox general manager. “The White Sox can be described pretty accurately as a family, even down to the unique relationships we all enjoy with one another. We understand that fans want a glimpse inside a baseball club’s front office, want to see how decisions are made and want to watch as a spring training roster comes together to form a team. We hope The Club provides that type of insight into the White Sox this summer for baseball fans.”↵⇥

↵↵↵The show, debuting on July 4, will follow on the heels of The Pen, the network’s first successful foray into reality television. The 2009 series examined the dynamic of the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen over the course of a season. The Club will cover the front office of the White Sox from the start of spring training through the July 31 trade deadline, promising heretofore unprecedented access to the decision making process of a baseball team’s front office.↵

↵↵The outspoken Guillen will be the obvious draw here, though I would imagine if it’s going to be broadcast by the league’s in-house network that the producers will take added pain to ensure that he doesn’t stray from the wacky to the outright offensive in his comments, as he has tended to in the past.↵
