With a three-game losing streak hurting their chances of making the playoffs — and defenseman Christoph Schubert potentially lost for the season — the Thrashers have decided to call up Chris Chelios, who first won the Stanley Cup during the Reagan Administration.

You say the Thrashers are desperate? Well, um, so do they.
“I don’t like the way the team has been playing lately,” Thrashers general manager Don Waddell said. “We are a desperate team right now and we have to get back on track soon. … With the situation now, our backs are against the wall. Bringing in a veteran presence made more sense than bringing in a younger guy.”
The defenseman has 22 points so far in 46 games with the Thrasher’s AHL team in Chicago.
